Although he appeared to have perished in the poisonous fumes in chapter six, chapter seven of Lost City of the Jungle reveals that Rod Stanton (Russell Hayden) escaped in the nick of time before the secret altar room was completely sealed shut. Using a bit of false information, Rod and Dr. Elmore (John Eldredge) trick Sir Eric's lackey, Professor Grebb (John Gallaudet), into searching for the meteorium on the opposite bank of the Pool of Light. But Grebb receives a last-minute warning from Sir Eric (Lionel Atwill) and is ready with grenades when Rod and Tal (Keye Luke) try to follow by speedboat. As chapter seven reaches its conclusion, one of the grenades hits its target, Rod and Tal's speedboat.
