In chapter eight of Lost City of the Jungle, Rod Stanton (Russell Hayden) and Tal Shan (Keye Luke) manage to abandon ship before their speedboat explodes. Meanwhile back at the expedition camp, Dr. Elmore confronts the evil Sir Eric (Lionel Atwill), who demands the pesky archeologist removed. Pretending to be distraught over the disappearance of her father, Marjorie (Jane Adams) pays a visit to Malborn (John Mylong), Sir Eric's secretary (and secretly his boss), and manages to plant a listening device. Unfortunately, Sir Eric also picks up the signal and lures Rod to the abandoned House of the Beggars. Investigating, the hero finds himself in a sealed room and at the mercy of Sir Eric's ingenious fire jets.
