Although thrown into a fiery pit in chapter five of Lost City of the Jungle, Rod Stanton (Russell Hayden) saves himself by grabbing on to a heretofore unseen ledge. Doing a bit of snooping, Rod comes across a hitherto sealed off altar room containing hieroglyphs that Professor Elmore (George Eldredge) believes may be the fabled Lost City of the Jungle. Rod trails the suspicious Professor Grebb (John Gallaudet) back to the secret room, but as he enters, a hidden mechanism seals the room, which quickly fills with a poisonous gas.
