Synopsis by Mark Deming
At the age of 15, Aaliyah Haughton -- known to her fans simply as Aaliyah -- became one of the most promising new stars in R&B with her double-platinum debut album Age Ain't Nothing but a Number. By the summer of 2001, the 22-year-old showbiz veteran was promoting her third disc after successfully breaking into the movies with a role in the action hit Romeo Must Die, and she'd been cast in two projected sequels to The Matrix. But a plane crash in the Bahamas while returning home from a video shoot brought a tragic end to the life and career of this gifted young singer and actress. Aaliyah: Losing Aaliyah takes a look at Aaliyah's short but memorable life, celebrating her as both an artist and as a young woman. Please note that for legal reasons, Aaliyah: Losing Aaliyah does not feature any of her music.
