In this series, students will encounter methods of transportation, learning about their backgrounds, current usage, and future possibilities. The importance of rivers in the history of transportation is explored in Look and Learn - The Young Geographer: Rivers, and explanations regarding the economic impact of waterway transport are provided. Topics related to river travel are discussed, and include drawbridges, sluices, and locks. Challenges associated with rivers, such as flooding and drainage, are presented as well as the roles played by canals and tributaries.
