The six-part series Living Islam documents the ideologies and culture of Islam in efforts to establish an understanding of the conflicts between Muslim countries and the Western world. The documentary was produced by the BBC and is hosted by anthropologist Akbar Ahmad. The Challenge of the Past takes a look at times of greater glory for the Muslims and examines the longing to regain lost supremacy. Program highlights include a segment on the most enduring of Islamic empires, the Turkish Ottoman Empire, as well as Iran and India. In addition, it addresses the exile of the Moors from the Kingdome of Granada. Other programs in this series are Among the Non-Believers, Foundations, Paradise Lies at the Feet of Our Mother, Struggling With Modernity, and The Last Crusade.
