Synopsis by Sally Barber

Living in the Past is a creative three-part series documenting three significant periods of British history. Programs illustrate how everyday people lived their lives and endured, often under difficult circumstances. The episode Life in Medieval Times recounts the period from 1066 to 1485. While an era of wars, crusades, and peasant revolts, it was also a time when trades flourished, life in the countryside was peaceful, and religion was a central part of society. Rare period paintings and engravings combine with expert commentary and historical analyses to provide a realistic and informative picture of the medieval years. Footage from a reconstructed working medieval village enhance this detailed look at the period. Other programs in the series are Life in Victorian Times and Life in Anglo-Saxon Times.
