Mary Ryan, a small time thief (Harriet Hammond), decides to go straight. While on a train, she runs into a girlfriend who is supposedly on her way to live with her uncle, Judge Loomis (George Nichols), who she hasn't seen in years. But instead, she elopes, so Mary goes in her place. Judge Loomis is none the wiser, but Mary finds him stiff and straight-laced. Trouble comes to the family when the Loomis son, Donald (Harrison Gordon), robs a bank and betrays a local girl. Then Mary is asked to leave because she is friendly with Dr. Randall (Dave Winter), and the judge does not approve of him. But Mary helps straighten everything out, reveals her true identity and marries Randall. This creaky, old-time melodrama was written and directed by William Christy Cabanne -- not one of the best directors of the silent era, but whose work was usually better.
