In chapter two of the Western serial Lightning Bryce, villainous Powder Solvang (Paul Hurst) sends his girlfriend, Daisy Bliss, to retrieve both the string and knife from the sheriff's office, items that together will reveal the location of the hidden mine, but she is foiled by the veiled Mystery Woman (Jill Woodward). Arriving in town on the stage, Lightning Bryce (Jack Hoxie) and Kate Arnold (Ann Little) learn of their inheritance and that Bryce Sr. admitted killing Arnold. Believing he already has one part of the key to the claim, Solvang sneaks into Kate's hotel-room to obtain the other. When the attempt fails due to the unexpected arrival of Lightning, the villain orders his girlfriend to attack Kate and obtain the missing piece of string. Lightning, meanwhile, is captured by the enraged La Conche Indian Zambleau (Steve Clemente) and, hung upside down from a tree, is left to die in the wilderness
