In a follow-up to Liftoff to Learning: Tethered Satellites, further demonstrations of tethered satellites are presented. The problems involved in deploying, stabilizing, and retrieving such satellites are discussed, as experiments are carried out to investigate the variations in force effects. The cable connecting the space shuttle with the satellite was twelve miles long. One of the goals of the project was to see if the satellites could generate an electric current as they moved through Earth's magnetic field.
