Synopsis by Alice Day
In the forbidding environment of outer space, astronauts must have a life support system in order to survive. When they leave their main spacecraft for spacewalks, either to make repairs or perform other tasks, this is referred to as "going EVA," for extravehicular activity. In Liftoff to Learning: Go for EVA!, students will learn about the special spacesuit worn by the astronauts, and the many perils that are encountered outside of the main craft. Temperature extremes, ultraviolet radiation, and micrometeoroids are some of the adverse factors that can endanger the lives of the astronauts.
