Synopsis by Jack Rodgers
A family are stunned to realize that their autistic son Owen -- who appeared to lose the ability to speak at around age three -- is able to memorize and repeat the dialogue from Disney animated movies. Encouraged by his parents to continue this unconventional form of therapy, he learns to communicate with others and understand the world around him by repeatedly watching the films, and begins to identify with the sidekick characters in them. This documentary profiles Owen, now a high-functioning adult, and turns his fan fiction, "The Land of the Lost Sidekicks," into an animated work. Directed by Roger Ross Williams.
