Synopsis by Eleanor Mannikka
In no more than an average endeavor to show the clashes between an old society and its beliefs and the modern world, this cooperative French-Senegalese drama by director Yves Ciampi focuses on the construction of a modern highway. Everything is going well until the chief engineer runs into an unexpected problem -- the new road is heading straight through the spot in a village where a sacred tree is venerated. All work comes to a halt as the government is consulted and the engineer is also faced with some personal problems. Then the workers decide to mix it up with the villagers, and things go from bad to worse.
