Synopsis by Michael Hastings
Featuring some of the most haunting, personal images of Polish filmmaker Walerian Borowczyk's career, this experimental short film continues to exert its influence upon such directors as Terry Gilliam and David Lynch. Les Jeux des Anges focuses in on the experience of being taken to a concentration camp, using at first a succession of shots taken from a train, then images of slate walls, various torture devices, and writhing bodies. Through his intricate sound design, Borowczyk is able to contrast his horrifying tableaux with the flapping of wings, thus introducing the "angels" of his film's title.
