Synopsis by Jonathan Crow
Robert Tai spins this old-school kung-fu flick hailing from Taiwan. Set during the twilight of the Qing dynasty when the Manchus use national resources to squelch internal dissent instead of repelling foreign bandits, the film focuses on a ragtag band of rebels lead by San. Though he is a brilliant master of the drunken style of kung-fu, he is unfortunately frequently drunk and prone to lavish benders and bizarre emotional jags. The man is engaged to be married to the beautiful Leela (played by martial arts star Kara Hui), who is not only willing to put up with his dissolute lifestyle, but is also no slouch in martial arts either. Her presence girds the hero as he does battle with not only the Qing, but also evil lurking Caucasians.
