Tyro Canadian director Simon Lavoie helms Le Deserteur - a fact-based drama set against the backdrop of the Quebec conscription crisis, that transports the audience back to 1942. As the tumultuous events of the Second World War unfurl, a young soldier who has been unwillingly drafted into the Canadian army opts to desert a Lévis-based training camp and high-tail it back to his parents and his beloved - with the disgruntled Canadian authorities in hot pursuit. Along the way, he has a number of surprising experiences.
