Review by Hans J. Wollstein

Filmed at California's famous Lone Pine locations -- in, according to some reports, a sweltering 110 degrees in the shade -- Lawless Range bears all the earmarks of director Robert North Bradbury: "swish"-panning, wooden acting and long stretches of dull riding. It also features a far more relaxed and self-assured John Wayne than in prior "Lone Star Westerns," the still novice actor beginning to exhibit the easy way with a line that would eventually make him a Hollywood icon. Yakima Canutt, meanwhile, performs his usual double duty as henchman and stunt double and there are surprising bits by veteran blackguard Bob Kortman and diminutive silent screen comic George Ovey as a couple of ranch hands.
