Synopsis by Rose of Sharon Winter
This film is part of a series, hosted by Schuyler Sackett, which explores the diversity of the American religious experience. Each episode features a visit to religious sites and buildings that have particular significance to a religious faith. In this volume, the viewer goes to see the "Old Ship," the Congregational Meeting House in Hingham, MA. The church was built in 1681, and is connected to the story of the early Pilgrims and Quakers. There are also features on Roger Williams, the religious dissident who founded Rhode Island; Mary Dyer, the Quaker hanged in Boston for her religious beliefs; and Anne Hutchinson, the noted preacher. A short feature on the Salem Witch Trials is also included.
