Back in 1946, an addiction to gambling could still be turned into a breezy comedy featuring the likes of Robert Young, Frank Morgan, and James Gleason -- addicts, yes, but about the nicest and most carefree folks around. Lady Luck is a typical RKO B-movie launched, it would seem, as a vehicle for contract starlet Barbara Hale, who hitherto had played supporting roles. The future "Della Street" is her pleasant self, of course, and Robert Young walks through his standard role with accustomed detachment. But the theme of the comedy remains somewhat disconcerting for more modern sensibilities.
