Whew. There's a lot of story to the story, which diffuses the focus of energy and infuriatingly complicates the time elements. The most intriguing pieces of the film are the beginning, with the charismatic Jayne (French actress Julie Du Page) plugging every man with slicked back hair she can find. Things loose their edge when the side story about Kerry goes awry and his mother, already down on her luck, has to hit the road with him and a rude French stranger in a tight red dress. Adam Baldwin, James Remar, and Louis Mandylor make for a pretty macho supporting cast of heavies, balancing Du Page's sexiness and Erika Eleniak's uncharacteristic, homespun housewife. While the final goofy twist is acceptable, the resolution of the tension -- that is, the offing of the villain -- is hardly believable, especially to anyone who has seen Eleniak in Baywatch. Veteran director Mark L. Lester -- who probably will never do better than 1985's Commando -- brings energy to the scenes, but for naught. How about next time a movie all about a skilled, seductive female assassin, and leave the mom and kid at home.
