Synopsis by Hans J. Wollstein
Theda Bara attempted to tone down her lurid image with this already then-stale melodrama about a formerly respectable wife forced by a cheating husband to take a lover herself. A little of the old Theda remained, however; about to be exposed as an adulteress, Lady Audley mercilessly shoves her lover (William Riley Hatch) down a well. He, alas, is not badly hurt, and his reappearance causes the poor lady to completely lose her marbles. Based on a 1862 English novel, Lady Audley's Secret did not live up to Bara's earlier successes, and, following yet another misfire, The Two Orphans (1915), studio czar William Fox threw his hands in the air and produced yet another "Vamp" film, Sin (1915).
