Two directors pooled their talents on the Spanish La Gata (The Cat). The story, concerning the romance between a bullfighter and a flamenco dancer, is merely serviceable at best. The film's principal attractions are the energetic dance sequences and the beautifully photographed (if ultimately grotesque) scenes in the bullring. Worth noting on a historical level is the fact that La Gata was the first Spanish production to be lensed in CinemaScope, a process that tends to be more effective in the exterior scenes than in the close-up romantic passages. The film was one of the many entries in Hungary's 1956 Karlovy Vary Film Festival
