The German industrial firm ThyssenKrupp Acciai Speciali Terni operated a steel mill in Turin, Italy and in the mid-2007, the company decided to close the plant. A number of repairs were needed at the Turin mill to conform to Italian safety regulations, but since the factory was only going to be open for a few more months, ThyssenKrupp felt it wasn't cost effective to invest more money in the plant. This decision proved to have fatal consequences when a fire broke out in the factory, caused by ThyssenKrupp's failure to properly maintain the facilities, which led to the death of seven workers in December 2007. Filmmaker Mimmo Calopresti investigates the Turin disaster in the documentary La Fabbrica Del Tedeschi, which examines the accident, the events that led up to it and how the survivors struggled to hold ThyssenKrupp responsible for their actions. Featuring extensive interviews with survivors and witnesses of the disaster, La Fabbrica Del Tedeschi (aka The Germans' Factory) was an official entry at the 2008 Venice Film Festival.
