Synopsis by Hal Erickson

La Bataille de L'Eau Lourde was released outside France as The Battle for Heavy Water. The story concerns the destruction by the Allies of the top-secret Norwegian heavy-water plant where the Nazis were developing an atomic weapon in the latter days of WWII. The same story would later be given the big-budget, big-star treatment in Heroes of Telemark, but the earlier film had the added advantage of topicality. Several real-life Resistance organizations helped raise the money to produce La Bataille de L'Eau Lourde, stirring up a brief flurry of international publicity. Ultimately, three versions of the film were produced: Norwegian, English and French.
