Synopsis by Dan Pavlides
The Nazis invade a small town in Yugoslavia and force the men to dig trenches. The children do odd jobs for the invaders like shine shoes and resort to petty theft while listening for information about the enemy. Partisans attack the Nazis, who line up the men shoot them as they try to run across an open field. When the children refuse to do anything more for the Nazis, they are rounded up and killed in similar fashion. The film sees the horrors of war from the perspective of the children and a nation who never have recovered from their harrowing experiences.
