Synopsis by Clarke Fountain
The Cold War is the War's End being referred to in the title of this documentary, which chronicles the life of Russians stationed in and living in East Germany at the time of reunification and afterward. One focus of the film is on a family of Russians who, with some difficulty, cross over the border of the newly reunified country to become immigrants. There they join a whole community of immigrant Russians, who have their own special restaurants and bars. By way of contrast, the Russian soldiers who had garrisoned East Germany since the end of World War II are forced to abandon what was for them a very pleasant life in order to return to Russia.
