Synopsis by Dan Pavlides
This plodding story finds a man taking a steamer ship to a remote island. The inhabitants are curious about the newcomer as he gets to know the innkeeper, the village idiot, and a pretty local girl. He starts a relationship with the girl after escaping death at the hands of the colony founder, a vengeful drunkard. He and the idiot manage to find gold, but the islanders turn their wrath on the man. He runs away after killing the girl's boyfriend in a fight. These people of the island have their own system of justice, however, and seek to punish the intruder in this symbolic drama of social conflict.
