Synopsis by Gönül Dönmez-Colin
Kochu Kochu Mohangal is a children's film, a melodrama with a moral about the trials of Mary, a poor widow, and her nine-year old son, Mathukutty. Mathukutty is subject to severe humiliation at school when his only shirt gets torn. To add to his misery, a stray dog eats all the food in the house and breaks the mud pots in the kitchen. Kunju Varkey, a lottery ticket seller, pities the boy and his mother and suggests that Mathukutty sell lottery tickets during his holidays. The commission the boy earns is just enough to buy a new shirt, but instead Mathukutty buys an aluminum pot for his mother. Mohan Philip won the 1998 Best Male Child Artist Award of the Kerala State for his performance as Mathukutty. The film was screened at the 4th International Film Festival of Kerala, 1999.
