Synopsis by Janiss Garza
Director William Seiter makes a jumbled mess out of Opie Read's novel of post-Civil War days. Colonel Remington Osbury (Joseph J. Dowling) and General Buck Hineman (Frederick Vroom) are both in love with the same woman (Cora Drew). She promises to marry the one who comes back alive from the Civil War. The General is the first one to return and they marry before realizing the Colonel isn't dead. Osbury has no hard feelings, however, and remains close to the couple. In fact his nephew, Phillip Burwood (Francis MacDonald), becomes engaged to the Hineman's daughter, Luzelle (Elinor Field). But Luzelle's rejected suitor, Boyd Savely (Lloyd Bacon), makes trouble by forging a letter which implies that Luzelle is actually the Colonel's daughter. The General challenges his old friend to a duel but both of them refuse to shoot. Finally Savely's actress girlfriend reveals that Savely was the cause of the trouble, and everything ends happily.
