The first of 10 sequels to Gokudo (1968) continues the story of Shimamura (Tomisaburo Wakayama), the former street hoodlum whose rise to power in the Osaka underworld comes at a great price to those around him. Minoru Ooki co-stars in this stirring crime thriller directed by Kosaku Yamashita. After the serious, brutal tone of the first two films, the series began to drift increasingly toward humor with Kiyoshi Saeki's amusing Heitai Gokudo (1968).
