Synopsis by Rose of Sharon Winter
This film is part of a series on notable Americans. This one features the story of John Glenn, one of America's original seven astronauts, and the first man to orbit earth. The year was 1962, and it is presented here with archival news reels and press conferences. The story continues with Glenn's service in the United States Senate. Then the film follows what may be his most unique achievement. Some 35 years after his initial space flight, John Glenn made history as the oldest astronaut, when he was a member of the 1998 NASA space expedition. The story of his arduous training for the flight, as well as spectacular film footage of the mission, are captured in this documentary.
