Synopsis by Janiss Garza

Nora Martin (Ella Hall) and her widowed mother (Mrs. Maie Hall) live in the slums. The struggle to make ends meet becomes too much for Mrs. Martin, and she goes off to see her wealthy father (George C. Pearce), who had disowned her when she got married. She leaves Nora in the care of an elderly Hebrew pawnbroker (Walter Belasco). Mrs. Martin becomes ill and dies before finding her father, but a news item about Nora reaches him and he goes to fetch her. He sends her to a pricey finishing school with the intention of marrying her off to someone respectable, but Nora finds she was happier in the slums with her newsboy sweetheart (Antrim Short). Eventually she runs away and goes back to the pawnbroker. Her grandfather finally accepts Nora's preferences and she marries the newsboy. This picturesque little story would have been far better if Universal hadn't made such a concerted effort to turn Ella Hall into a Mary Pickford clone.
