Synopsis by Hal Erickson
This feature-length docudrama details the history of the Irish rebellion against British rule, and the formation of the Irish Republican Army. The villains of the piece are the British "Black and Tans," who resort to all manner of political chicanery and strong-arm tactics to prevent the Irish from realizing their dream of Home Rule. Against this backdrop is played a love story, as the young hero must choose between devotion to his sweetheart and dedication to the Irish cause. Then as now, the Irish "question" was a controversial one, and there were many communities in which this film was banned. Irish Destiny fared best in such major American cities as Boston and Chicago, where anti-British sentiments were at a peak.
