Synopsis by Eleanor Mannikka
In this engaging biographical documentary, the life and career of the award-winning Italian actress Anna Magnani is portrayed through film clips and interviews. The latter include former conversations with the actress herself (who died in 1973) as well as talks with her directors, fellow actors, family, and friends. Her career took her to America for awhile where she won an Academy Award for her role in The Rose Tattoo, but the majority of her stage and film work was in Italy. Her son Chris discusses some of the reasons why her career faltered in later years, raising questions about the motives behind the business of making movies.
