Synopsis

A profile of Mohamed Atta, the Islamic radical who was the presumed ringleader of the Sept. 11, 2001, attack on the World Trade Center, traces his life. Included: his seemingly normal childhood in Cairo, his architectural studies in Germany and his suicide mission. The hour also explores events and beliefs that were the motivation for his anger toward the U.S. Featured: comments from New York Times journalists Ethan Bronner and Steven Erlanger; and psychiatrist Stuart Grassian.
