Synopsis by Betsy Boyd

Lifetime Television's Intimate Portrait: Iman profiles exquisite East African supermodel Iman Mohamed Abdulmajid. Born in the poor Muslim country of Somalia in 1955, Iman was lucky to have supportive parents who told her that she could be anything she wanted to be. As a child, Iman felt awkward and nerdy. In the program, she explains that she could not get a date to the prom. Things would soon change. In 1972, at 16, Iman saw her world crumble as a new regime took over Somalia. After traveling to Kenya, Iman had a chance encounter with a photographer and adventurer who would change her life. In one short year, she became a fashion superstar, shattering the taboos that denied black women major beauty contracts. Married to rock star David Bowie, Iman loves most to read and relax. The program mixes film clips and interviews with Iman's friends and family to paint the portrait of her life.
