Synopsis by Mark Deming

Black Sabbath is arguably the single most influential band in heavy metal; its minor-key paeans to drugs, depression, and all manner of bad karma made them trailblazers in the early '70s, and the extremity of their musical vision set them apart from such contemporaries as Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple. Inside Black Sabbath 1970-1992 - An Independent Critical Review features vintage performance footage and an interview with guitarist Tony Iommi alongside a panel discussion in which a handful of respected musicians and critics discuss the finer points of Sabbath's back catalog and the many changes the band has gone through since its earliest days.
