Synopsis by Hal Erickson
The first of CBC television's "on the spot" series--that is, the first network offering to be telecast outside studio walls--In Town Tonight premiered September 12, 1952. Its debut episode was devoted to live coverage of a Toronto fashion show. Later programs were not quite so frivolous, concentrating of breaking news stories and interviews. Put together by Canadian broadcasting legend Sydney Newman, In Town Tonight ran until October 24, 1952.
