Synopsis by Hal Erickson

There's no plot to speak of in In Town Tonight, and as far as the audience was concerned, none was necessary. British Lion Studios put together an eye-popping aggregation of top music-hall talent, whose names meant little to American viewers but meant everything to English film fans. Perhaps wisely, producer W. S. Smith merely records the stars "in one" before a proscenium curtain, allowing them to perform their specialties with a minimum of cinematic muss-and-fuss. One can be fairly certain that audiences clamored for more as the film's 78 minutes drew to a close. In Town Tonight probably wouldn't have earned an American showing at all had not British films become all the rage in the early days of television.
