Synopsis by Steve Blackburn
African-American author and commentator Haskell Ward hosts this final video in a series that examines the history of black Americans. This installment wraps up the series by tackling the sometimes divisive issue of strict ethnocentricity versus assimilation, and how variations between the two extremes seemed to be playing out in the beginning of the 1990s. Guests include Congressman Charles Rangel of New York's 15th District and Kenneth B. Clark, Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Psychology of the City College at the City University of New York. Highlights include an introduction by the late Arthur Ashe, as well as archival footage. Ward is the author of African Development Reconsidered: New Perspectives From the Continent.
