Synopsis by Andrea LeVasseur
In Search of Ancient Ireland, Episode II: Saints investigates the rise of Christianity in Ireland. Gerard McSorley narrates. This hour-long program starts with the flock of missionaries after the fifth century A.D. After the fall of the Roman Empire, these missionaries converted the mostly pagan country to Christianity. Reading and writing also helped to bring Ireland out of the Dark Ages, but the church's tight hold on literacy allowed it to control history and the primary means of education. Originally broadcast on PBS in June of 2002.
