Synopsis by Cecilia Cygnar
Part of a series, this documentary explores the history and the mystery around Anastasia, the youngest daughter of Tsar Nicholas II of Russia. Narrated by series host Leonard Nimoy, this video uncovers the hidden details of the life of this grand duchess of Russia, who was supposedly killed along with her family by the Bolsheviks during the October Revolution. Shortly after her death, several women came forward saying they were the duchess and had somehow survived the execution and escaped from Russia. The most notorious of these allegations was a woman named Anna Anderson who claimed to be Anastasia and the only heir to the extensive Romanov fortune. Anderson could never be positively identified as Anastasia and, years after her death in 1984, her body was exhumed and DNA tests were performed. This documentary examines all of the Anastasia allegations and offers information that confirms or rebuts each theory.
