Synopsis by Perry Seibert
Raed Andoni's documentary Improvisation follows the exploits of a celebrated musical group known as Trio Joubran. Each member of the threesome plays an instrument known as the "oud", a precursor of the mandolin. Although some time is spent on the music itself, the director is just as interested in the lives of the men who are Palestinean, even though they work regularly enough in Israel that they have passports from that country. The players open up about how this existence informs their music.
