During the Italian invasion of Ethiopia in 1935, Romano Ismani (Emidio Clementi) finds himself rising through the ranks of the Italian armed forces. When Italy joins Nazi Germany in launching a war against the Soviet Union in 1941, he is then called to the forefront due to his ability to communicate with the enemy. At first, the new war seems to be easily won, but as the battle progresses, Romano starts to have doubts. As the ghost of the previous war begins to haunt him, Romano decides to flee the unwinnable fight. Written and directed by Federico Ferrone and Michele Manzolini.
