Synopsis by Tracie Cooper
Originally filmed in 1980 at the height of apartheid in South Africa, I Talk About Me, I Am Africa offers an intimate look at theatrical forms of cultural resistance. Performances include a dramatization of black citizens' ongoing battle with the police, a symbolic linkage between prisons and the gold mines located beneath Johannesburg, and a then illegal reading of the defiant poem "I Talk About Me, I Am Africa," one of the most evocative and controversial pieces of writing the era knew.
