Rosa Von Praunheim satirizes cults of any kind in this black-humored story about a gay couple in Berlin, one studying art and the other medicine, happily living together until one of them is hypnotized by a deranged female cult leader and convinced to join her "Optimal Optimism" religion. The traumas and dramas of cult foibles play out against neo-expressionist backdrops, with von Praunheim using the Moonies, the Rajnishers, and doomed Jim Jones followers as ample material to twist around an already kinky storyline.
