Synopsis by Clarke Fountain

This documentary follows the lives of Carlos and Maria Robles and their children, who sought asylum in Australia as a result of the civil war in El Salvador. It begins by showing their elation in 1992 at the conclusion fo the hostilities. Carlos wants to return to his country, Maria is not so sure it's a good idea. Their daughters, after all, have spent so long in Australia that their values and attitudes are mostly those of their new country. Carlos returns without Maria, and she eventually decides to follow him. When she gets there, she discovers that he has been having an affair, but he has also been doing great social reform work in a village.
