Synopsis by Steve Blackburn
Though the form began to falter with the breakdown of studios in the 1960s, some outstanding musicals were still produced during this decade, such as the Academy Award-winning films My Fair Lady (1964), directed by George Cukor and starring Rex Harrison and Audrey Hepburn; Mary Poppins (1964), directed by Robert Stevenson and starring Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke; and Oliver! (1968), directed by Carol Reed and starring Ron Moody and Oliver Reed. This program provides viewers with excerpts from those and various other musical movies, including The Music Man (1962), Bells Are Ringing (1960), Gypsy (1962).
