Part of the History's Turning Points II video series, which explores pivotal moments in world history, History's Turning Points II: The Shot That Started the Great War describes the political events which prefaced World War I. On June 28th, 1914, Austro-Hungarian Archduke Franz Ferdinand made an appearance in Bosnia-Herzegovina to show support for the rebel Serb nationalists. When young activist Gavrilo Princip assassinated the archduke, he also inadvertently triggered the start of World War I. The program features on-location dramatizations and rare historical footage.
