Synopsis by Betsy Boyd
Part of the History's Turning Points II video series, which explores pivotal moments in world history, History's Turning Points II: Rise of the Mob depicts the relationship between Prohibition and the American Mafia's rise to power. In 1920, intending to clean up the country, the U.S. government banned the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages. Instead of encouraging health and prosperity, prohibition paved the way for violent mob dominance. The program features on-location dramatizations and rare historical footage, both of which describe the St. Valentine's Day blood bath in Chicago, an event which triggered the end of Prohibition.
